Artwork to lift your mood and enhance your home

Halifax department store Harveys have responded to customer demand and opened a brand new department dedicated to art and lighting

For too long now there has been nowhere in the town to buy artwork and Harveys managing director Tracy Harvey realised it was the perfect opportunity to take the store in a new and exciting direction.

To source their art, Harveys have forged a link with Artko, one of the leading manufacturers of wall art in the UK today.

The company works with up and coming artists who are exclusive to them and supply prints and canvasses to suit all tastes and budgets to add colour and mood statements to your home.

Tracy is particularly keen to feature Yorkshire-based artists and has some beautiful work by watercolour artist Catherine Stephenson.

Born in North Yorkshire Catherine has been a professional water colourist for more than 20 years. Well known for her floral art she uses colours that are inspired by nature and are sure to lift any room from neutral tone to vibrant florals, purples, pinks and fuchsias. All combine beautifully to create a fresh yet relaxing atmosphere.

Nigel Cooke from Mirfield is also heavily featured.

He began his professional life as a caricaturist and completed we over 10,000 hours of live drawing and painting, setting up concessions in Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Alton Towers and the Trafford Centre in Manchester.

From his caricature background Nigel has evolved his art into iconic cityscape paintings, capturing the mood, energy and atmosphere of the cities he paints. He is swiftly becoming one the UK’s most sought after artists.

To complement and enhance the artwork the new lighting department carries a range of beautiful lamps suitable for any room in the house.

Sharron Robson, gift department manager said: “The department looks absolutely fantastic and we have already had a lot of very positive customer comments as there are so few places to buy art and lighting in Halifax.”
