The Halifax & Calderdale MS Group – August’s Charity of the Month
The Halifax & Calderdale MS Group is delighted to be Harveys of Halifax chosen charity of the month for August 2019.
Collection boxes will be available at till points for customers to donate any loose change from their purchases and MS Society will be on hand in store on Saturday 10 and 24 August from 12 - 3, to provide information and support.
Multiple Sclerosis, or MS, is a long-lasting disease that affects your brain, spinal cord, and the optic nerves in your eyes. Symptoms are caused by the progressive loss of myelin, the outer protective lining of nerve fibres which can cause problems with vision, balance, muscle control, and other basic body functions. The effects are often different for everyone who has the disease. It is estimated that 110,000 people from the UK have MS.
Money raised will go directly to the local group, who as well as being affiliated to the national MS Society, provides support for local people in Calderdale who are affected by MS as well as their families and carer’s. The group provides opportunities for local people to get together for a chat and a cuppa on the last Wednesday of every month at Pellon social club. We are about to start supporting an adapted Pilates class and we have lots of plans for many new activities and events which we are very excited about. We also provide grants to assist in the purchase of any aids or adaptations that may become necessary due to MS.
Ann Marie Jane, the local Group Coordinator said
