Part Time Sales Assistants

22.5 hours per week over five days including Saturday
This is a permanent position

Standard hours

Variable between 9.00am and 6.00pm over five days a week including Saturdays, you will be expected to be flexible to cover busy periods, holidays and sickness.


Working as part of the sales team you will be able to offer outstanding customer service and develop customer loyalty through:
  • Understanding and demonstrating customer care and high levels of customer service both on the sales floor and till points.
  • Displaying good listening skills, identifying customer needs and responding to them quickly.
  • Showing a genuine interest in other people and willingness to help

  • You will use your selling skills to ensure sales are maximised
  • Providing and continuously developing your product knowledge.
  • Replenishing stock and maintaining high standards of merchandising and housekeeping.
  • Cashiering.
  • Showing flexibility and willingness to meet store needs during the period of employment regarding hours, work and duties.
  • Supporting and helping colleagues with their work and getting involved in day-to-day activities as and when required.
  • You will be expected to communicate effectively with line management on a daily basis to ensure:
    • Adherence to all Company policies and procedures e.g. timekeeping, absence reporting procedures etc.
  • Maintaining and demonstrating security and Health and Safety awareness - ensure that standards are adhered to at all times.
  • Actively supporting and communicating with colleagues, customers and managers.
  • Have a passion for selling.


  • Previous work experience in a similar environment would be desirable.
  • Good numeracy, written and spoken English skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including overtime to meet the business needs.

Catering Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Harveys.  We are looking for a Catering Manager with the experience to successfully handle the operational responsibility of a busy restaurant as well as ensuring a fantastic experience with excellent food and drink every visit.

Harveys is a long established, family run department store which combines the best traditions of the past with the style of the future. Within the store is our excellent 170 seat restaurant ‘Upstairs at Harveys’ which offers tempting home cooked meals in attractive surroundings. ‘Upstairs at Harveys’ over the years has built a reputation for great wholesome food, cooked and baked in-store. 

Your role as Catering Manager

Reporting to the Operations Manager your role will be crucial in managing the operation of the restaurant including the development and growth of the people, sales and profits.

The role

  • Responsible for maintaining high standards of food, service, and health & safety
  • Food preparation
  • Managing, training and developing the restaurant team
  • Menu planning and development
  • Maintaining our 5 star food hygiene rating
  • Meeting financial targets
  • Negotiating and buying, food costings, stock control, stocktaking and all associated paperwork
  • Maintaining gross profit
  • Front of house duties


You will:

  • Be an experienced catering manager with proven people management, cooking and customer service skills
  • Have good leadership, organisation and hand on skills
  • Have a proven track record in maximising profits by controlling food and labour costs.
  • Be highly motivated with the ability to deliver tangible results to a deadline
  • Be a forward thinker with the ability to bring in new initiatives
  • Have a passion and energy for food, keen to introduce new ideas
  • Have full catering and food hygiene qualifications.
  • Have excellent customer service and customer engagement skills
  • Have an outgoing, positive and ‘can do’ personality
  • Have a strong sales and commercial focus – help grow sales, increase profitability, identify and maximise opportunities
  • Have excellent cooking and baking skills.


  • Based: Halifax Town Centre
  • Salary: £negotiable depending on experience
  • Daytime working – no evenings required
  • Hours: Flexible average 39 hours per week, to include Saturday working
  • 28 days holidays
